As some of you know, I took Wilton's Cake Decorating Class. Last sunday was my second lesson or class with the instructor, Mary. We have to bake a cake or buy one and bring with us to the class. Beside cake, I brought my own make butter cream icing (you can either buy the ready-to-use icing or just DIY la) which the instructor teach us how to make at the first class last sunday.
Went to Ailing's house to bake my cake on the thursday night before I go for my trip on friday. It my 1st time baking a cake... All, I know it sounds silly that I've not bake a cake at all cos I have a OVEN at home lei! Never know that I can bake a cake using betty crocker cake mix because I never really thought of it. Just kill me please =.=
There are many cake mixes now in a whole wide variety of flavors.Bought the Betty Crocker Decadent Supreme Cake Mix for the 1st time cos we did not have time to experiment with scratch recipes. We spend our past week visiting Micheal's store to buy the items needed cos they have this 50% off any ONE regular price item coupon and is good though nov 10 with the fine prints saying one coupon per customer per day! They have always been the 40% off one item or 20% off the entire purchase. Now 50% off lei..不買就太對不起我老公了.. 哈哈哈 Imagine us going in and out of the store several times a day (afternoon and night cos our hubby on night shift) , of cos we paid our items with different cashier la.. so one day I can buy 4 items with the 50% off coupon, if theres more cashier, I'll be more happy.. LOL Sometimes I even take Hubby W with me and he played a joke on me " Ask your father, mother, brother all come la!" hahhaha.. Do you get the joke, Laughed.
Okay back to the Betty Crocker cake mix. Each box will yield enough cake mix to make two 8 or 9 inch round cakes, one 13 by 9 cake, appoximatley 24 cupcakes stated on the box. We shared this cos we bought a 6 inch baking pan one instead of the 8 inch stated on the wilton course 1 book.. feels that 6 inch cake is good just for me and Hubby W, anyway we just decorate the design on the cake what, don need a big cake one, my theory la. =X
This I present you my 1st bake cake using Betty Crocker cake mix. Opps, Just realised that I forgot to take pic of the icing that we did on last sunday afternoon =.-
In lesson 2, we were taught how to torte the cake with a cake leveler, slide the top, torted layer onto the cake lifter, filling the cake with medium consistency icing and filled inside of the cake with the chocolate mousse that we prepared, icing the cake using a spatula, hold our pipping and tools, how to transfer a cupcake design to the cake with piping gel.

Here is the 1st cake that I decorated in class.
Of course it's not mean to be eat, too much icing, too sweet. I just practise the tips and the pressure of pipping. Not very pleased with the way it turned out. I think I need more practice!!!!

Autumn Impromptu Weekend Getaway
This past weekend was fabulous.
Thursday was Verterans Day, its a annual United States holiday honoring military veterans on Nov 11 and Hubby W was given an additional off on the friday... so makes its a very long weekend and I planned a short impromptu getway to Sedona and Grand Canyon on the friday.
Day ONE.
Eating at Mimi's cafe at bell road after collecting our rental car at 8.30am before setting off.
After 2hrs drive, finally reached Red Rock State Park.
Our Lunch at Oak Creek Market Place.
We also spent some time at the Oak Creek Market Place.
Reached this place at 4.45pm and was told that they are closing in another 15mins time.
Took a few pics of the surrounding. Will be back the next day.
Feels that 1 day is not enough at Sedona neh.
Checked in our motel in Flagstaff abt 30mins drive from Sedona.
Time Checked: 7pm
We had an early night and tml we're will be heading to Grand Canyon in the morning.
Day TWO.
Checked out at 6.30am and saw ice forming ontop of our car and its freaking COLD lor.
20 Fah = -6 degree in the morning neh. 冷到~
Wonder how Hubby W going to work in this cold weather, 老公辛苦你了.
Dabao-ed Mac breakfast near our motel before setting off.
Hubby trying to be funny.
Bye Grand Canyon!
1hr 30mins drive back to Sedona for the Slide Rock State Park in the afternoon. 美到~
Visited Rainbow Trout Farm which is very near Slide Rock State Park again.
Its a $1 fee per pole, fish you catch are $8-12 depending on the size, cleaning is $0.50 and can BBQ ur trout for only $1.
Got our long bamboo fishing pole, some brown putty-like bait, and a net.
Many fishes, 不怕釣不到~
BBQ Time!
Next time I'll bring sambal chilly if I hit this place again. LOL
Bye Sedona and Home sweet home.
Drove back to phoenix on the saturday night (I don wannna miss my decorating lesson on sunday), and had buffet dinner with Hubby W's trade at World Buffet.
Signed up for my first Wilton Cake Decorating Class today with Ailing!!!
I wanted to sign up for several months, but never found the time (either 三分鐘熱度, or cant make up my mind)
This time I was determined to make it to the november classes and was happy that I waited, since Wilton uses a new class curriculum starting in June 2010.
We had our late breakfast at Village Inn.
After that, we registered for the Wilton Decorating Basics course which is the first out of three on the 1st day of class at Micheal's Store. Paid US$22.50 for the 4 two hour classes every sunday 2-4pm, including a Wilton Course 1 Booklet. $22.50 for all 4 classes plus we'll get a $5 off coupon after completing the course 1. What do you think about this class? Reasonable, cheap or expensive? LOL
We purchased the required tools (ultimate tool caddy and a ready-to-use decorator icing) and brought some cookies, which were needed for the first class at 2pm. Some items are now on my supply shopping list: an aluminum baking pan, meringue powder, clear flavoring, piping gel, icing colors, cake lifter, cake turner, cake leveler, cake storage, measuring spoons and cups, spatula...and many many more ( this is what I'm pondering abt, need to spend alot on those baking stuff if I decide on the course)
Our little project for the 1st class was to decorate our cookies using the star tip (No. 18). For the first time I used a decorating bag with a coupler and a metal tip to put the icing on my cookies. I filled it with ready-to-use decorator icing and started squeezing. The bag made it easy to control the flow of the icing and with a little practice I was able to garnish the cookies with little stars.
The most important thing I learned in the first class is that you need to use different icing consistencies depending on what you want to do with it: stiff icing for shaping flowers with standing petals, like roses, medium consistency for making stars, borders and other flowers and thin icing for icing the cake and writing.
I came out of the class wanting more and more like a drug addict hahahaha. Can't wait for next week! I'm looking forward to learning more in the second class, where we will decorate our first cake.
After our lesson ends at 4pm, we did some grocery shopping at Lee Lee Oriental Market and dinner at East Bristo then home sweet home.

周杰倫 2010《超時代》演唱會 Jay Chou 2010《The Era》Concert
Presale VIP tickets just started selling today... Just booked 5 Jay Chou concert tickets through phone cos the Su's family wanna join us too. We're going to share a rental car and off we go to LA just for a short weekend to attend the concert in Jan. Hubby W and me are so wanting to go to the concert and I have no idea which tickets either $398 or $298 to buy. We're not a DIE-HARD Jay's fan but we noe most of his songs, other people think that we're crazy or wat to buy so exp tickets... but its our 1st concert not yours, thank you.
I'm soooo disappointed at 1st cause I thought he was gonna be in Vegas in dec and I've already booked my hotel room during the xmas week (Went last christmas and wanna explore other places actually, but kiasu us already booked the hotel =C ) The confirmed locations for his concert are Vancouver, Bay Area (San Francisco) and Los Angeles. No new locations will be added. Vegas is not a stop for this world tour. So now confirm he's coming LA for his concert in Jan 2011 but but but there's a new change is that VIP tickets are $398 not $298 as previously stated on the facebook !@#%$%
After much discussion, we decided to get the $398 one as it'll nearer to the stage =)
Busy halloween weekends!!!
Visited Peoria Sports Complex for the monster bash and balloon illumination in the evening, Fear Farm at night to scare ourself, Arizona State Fair the next morning with free admission from 10am-12 noon and bought the unlimited ride wristbands and enjoyed the rides, entertainment and had fun at the fair, BBQ + Potluck party at friend's house in the late afternoon and carve our very first hello kitty pumpkin!
Perio Sports Complex on 30th october,
